Super Trooper Improv (“STI” for short) formed in 2017 and began a monthly residency in Leeds where they currently perform at Box Leeds City. The group has gone from strength to strength with headline and full show bookings across the north of England (including Leeds, Bradford, Hull, Harrogate, Manchester and Liverpool). They have performed full shows at comedy festivals including the Hull Comedy Festival, Discount Comedy Festival (Leeds) and Beverley Laughs (Beverley).
STI perform a variety of comedy sketches and games entirely based on suggestions from the audience, similar to classic TV shows like Whose Line Is It Anyway. Because it’s entirely improvised, every show is different, but past sketches have seen a farmer’s sheepdog arguing with its owner while piloting a spitfire, a news report on the Thames being turned to custard and Michael Parkinson being outed as a Russian spy.
The group vary the games and sketches they play to keep things fresh with a full show typically featuring more than a dozen different types. One of their favourite games is Party Quirks - where the audience give several performers playing guests at a party unusual quirks, for example they may be obsessed with shoes. The performer playing the host (who has not heard the audience’s suggestions) then has to host the party while simultaneously trying to guess each of his guest’s quirks.
The group are made up of members from a wide range of backgrounds including full-time comics, a lawyer, a robotics expert and a TV editor. But the focus of every show is on having fun while making the audience laugh and giving them control of what happens on stage!
As well as improvised comedy the group run stand-up comedy nights, corporate training and entertainment events and can also offer improvised comedy teaching.
